Due to its taste, size and shelf-life, Hass avocados are the more popular of the two. Both varieties are relatively high in protein; avocados have the highest protein content of any fruit. Raw avocado consists 73% of water, 15% fat, 9% carbohydrates, and 2% protein. 67% of the total fat is monounsaturated fat a “healthy” fat and 14% saturated fat.

Difference in looks

Hass avocados have rough skin and deep green color, turning a dark purplish-black when ripe. Roughly a fat egg-shape, it is whitish-green in the middle when ready to eat. Hass avocados weigh 200 to 300 grams (7 to 10 oz) and are pear-shaped. Fuerte avocados are larger, weighing 225-450g (8-16 oz), and are lighter in color with a smooth, bright green skin even when ripe. Their flesh is dense and pale green.

Hass avocados taste buttery and nutty, while Fuerte avocados are sweeter and fruitier. Fuerte avocados are often referred to as “slimcados” due to their lower fat content.
